Last week, Blake and I met my side of the family for a camping trip in Eastern Washington, at a place called Lake Roosevelt.  My family is super close, but spread out distance wise, so it’s rare these days to get everyone in the same place at once.  I love and miss them all so much from down here in California, so it was nice being in such close quarters ;).

We stayed at the Two Rivers Casino Resort, spread out between my parent’s RV, my sister’s camper, and a couple tents.  Every morning, we’d wake up and make breakfast, pack some food, and head out on the lake to boat and play in the water all day.  Growing up, this was how we “vacationed” – camping and boating at some lake!  So we were in our element, and it was fun adding Blake to that.  Big thanks to my parents for planning the trip, getting us all out there, keeping the boat full of gas, and feeding us along the way.

Highlights of the Trip

  • Spending time with my nieces and nephew – that always takes the cake.  They are just the sweetest, smartest little humans!
  • Time on the boat.  Thanks Mom and Dad!
  • Watching Blake try to paddle surf and steal the wake from others while they were wake surfing.
  • Eating. A lot.
  • Being able to have the dogs there – my family dog, Rudy, and my brother’s dog, Chesney.

A few more highlights in pictures…(Apologies ahead of time that this is more of a family photo journal than anything, feel free to stop scrolling at anytime 😉  Also, Blake could only stay for the weekend since he had to get back to work, so most of the pictures are from the first couple days.  What can I say, he’s the picture guy!)

We surfed…a lot.

And a couple videos, cause I love them…

Dane has MOVES when he surfs, and it makes me smile everytime…

We obviously take boat/surf music VERY seriously in our family…

Caleb DID land a 360, but in this video he didn’t quite stay up on the wake.  He’s so good!

Caleb and I wakeboarded…guys, I’m getting old!  Wakeboarding hurts these days!  My back!

We paddle boarded…the kids loved this!!  The dogs not so much ;).  I love this shot of little Estelle on the paddle board with Blake, her paddle dragging in the water behind her..

Blake tried to invent a new sport – paddle wake surfing??  We were all cracking up at his attempts to catch the wake as the boat went by!  And then he legitimized it by actually surfing in the wake behind the boat, with the paddle board.  Seriously, one of my favorite things about Blake is his ability to make everything fun, and this was a perfect example of that.

Some bonding time between my little sister’s boyfriend and my Dad :).  Boat dancing…

Travel Details

My parents drove over from Seattle, and Blake and I flew in and out of the Spokane airport.  The airport is about an hour and ten minutes from Two Rivers.  The best flights we found were on Delta and Alaska, most laying over in either Seattle or Salt Lake City.

Lake Roosevelt

In 1941 the Grand Coulee Dam was built on the Columbia River as part of the Columbia River Basin project, creating a 130-mile long lake – Lake Roosevelt, named after President Franklin D. Roosevelt.  You can boat, fish, swim, camp, canoe, and hunt, and historic Fort Spokane is close by as well.

We spotted bald eagles throughout the week – even saw a nest with baby eagles in it!  Talk about nature ;).
